12-year-old completes marathon challenge to fundraise for hospice

A 12-YEAR-OLD ran a marathon in the month of February to fundraise for Hospice of the Valleys after they cared for a loved one.

“My teacher thought I was mad,” said Jack Challenger, who won Fundraiser of the Year, sponsored by the Tovey Brothers, at the South Wales Health and Care awards.

Jack said he ran through sleet and rain, saying: “It was quite hard at the start.”

In total Jack raised £5,469.45 for Hospice of the Valleys.

He wanted to thank his friends and teachers at the Brynmawr Comprehensive school.

Jack and his family also wanted to thank Chelsea FC. The club sent him a letter congratulating him on his feat.

He also went to a Welsh Rugby captain’s run and got to meet all the players thanks to his fundraising.

Jack won the prize at the eighth annual South Wales Health and Care Awards 2024, which were held on Wednesday December 4, 2024 at Rodney Parade.

He was one of the winners of the fifteen categories that were announced on the night.
