Almost 50 flood warnings and alerts in place for Wales after Storm Darragh

There are dozens of flood warnings and alerts in place across Wales this morning as Storm Darragh continues to impact. While the storm is slowly moving away from the UK, there is a yellow weather warning for wind still in place until 6pm.

As of 9:45am on Sunday, December 8, there were 19 flood warnings and 27 flood alerts in place for Wales. The warnings come just two weeks after Storm Bert caused serious flooding in south Wales.

On Saturday, December 7, the Met Office issued a rare danger to life red weather warning for Wales until 11am. Heavy wind and rain continued throughout Saturday with amber and yellow weather warnings. Sunday appears much milder but a yellow warning for wind remains. Sunday’s yellow weather warning reads: “Storm Darragh will be moving away from the UK through Sunday but will continue to leave a legacy of strong north to northeasterly winds across much of England and Wales.

Winds will quite widely gust to 35-45 mph inland but locally could gust in excess of 50 mph, especially over higher ground. Around coasts, winds will gust to 50-60 mph, perhaps locally nearer 70 mph during the morning. The wind may cause disruption to travel, with difficult driving conditions likely. Winds will very slowly ease from the north through the day.”
