Animal shelter appeals for forever home for dog after 1,500 days in kennels

A rescue dog who has spent 1,500 days in a west Wales kennels is hoping that she may finally have her forever home by Christmas.

Maggie, a nine-year-old Sharpei x Staffie, is described by her carers as ‘the most loving, gentle girl you could meet’.

But for nearly half her life, she has been waiting patiently for a cosy fireside and kind owner of her own.

She is being cared for by West Wales Poundies near Llandeilo, which is highlighting her plight.

“Maggie has spent the last four years and three months/220 weeks/1,500 days sat in kennels witing patiently for someone to choose her..but yet no-one comes,” said the small charity, which was founded by Lianne Evans to save the lives of dogs in council pounds.

“After waiting all this time in rescue, she deserves the best home.”

Over the years, Maggie has become the ‘best friend’ of Lianne, after arriving at the shelter scared and unwanted, and is a firm favourite with its volunteers.

“It breaks our hearts to constantly see her overlooked,” they said.

Maggie loves long walks on the lead and would ideally suit a home with older children or an active retired couple, but she hates cats and small furry animals.

“We think the biggest issue is that she needs to be an only dog, that seems to put a lot of people off,” admitted the shelter. “She does have a few quirks, but what dog doesn’t?”

“But whatever her quirks, she doesn’t deserve to spend the rest of her days in kennels.

“We can’t bear the thought of her wasting any more of her life living alone in rescue.

“Please help us turn this lovely lady’s life around and together, let’s find Maggie the perfect companion she so longs for.”
