Antiques Roadshow star wows residents in care home visit

A 95-year-old man who struggles with conversation could not stop talking when his TV idol from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow visited his care home.

Sandy Morrison, who moved into Aarandale Manor in Mill Hill in 2023, could not believe it when antiques expert Eric Knowles turned up at a community valuation day.

“Dad must have watched the Antiques Road Show for close to 40 years,” Sandy’s daughter Catherine Lomer said. “It was wonderful to hear how chatty Dad was with Eric as conversations can be quite challenging for him.”

Barnet’s deputy mayor Cllr Danny Rich was among 45 VIPs and others at the valuation event, staged at Aarandale Manor at Holders Hill Circus.

Care home manager Kirsty Harris said: “It was wonderful to see Sandy’s eyes light up when he saw Eric Knowles. He was really engaged in conversation and you could see how much it meant to him.”

One of the items Eric looked at was an 1860s sewing machine brought in by staff from All Aboard charity shops, worth “in the region of £100”, as he put it.
