Bayern issue transfer update as Chelsea look to swap Christopher Nkunku for Mathys Tel

(London Standard)

Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl has ruled any January signings or departures, amid interest in Christopher Nkunku and Chelsea’s enquirying about Mathys Tel.

The Blues have been interested in forward Tel since last summer and have enquired over his availability this month amid Bayern’s interest in Nkunku.

Speaking about Tel earlier this week, sporting director Christoph Freund said. “Our clear goal is for Mathys to make his breakthrough with us. We are very happy with our squad, quality and quantity wise.”

And Eberl has now echoed his colleague’s sentiments when asked about Nkunku, telling Spox: “We’re extremely happy with our squad … The squad is very, very well positioned in terms of quality and quantity. We have no interest in doing anything [in January].”

On Tel, who notched an assist against Hoffenheim last time out, Eberl added: “You can see that he doesn’t have the freedom at the moment. It’s also up to us to give him the time to find his freedom again. Then we’ll have a squad that is sufficiently set up in terms of quantity and quality.”
