Biggest ever ferry berths at Pembrokeshire port to help out after Storm Darragh

What is believed to have been the biggest ferry in its history, docked at a Pembrokeshire port last night.

The 212 metre, 43,532 tonne ship came alongside in Fishguard Harbour at 8pm yesterday, Wednesday, December 11.

Holyhead Port is currently closed due to significant damage caused by Storm Darragh.

The closure of Holyhead Port is being managed through a coordinated effort between the Port Authority, Stena Line, Irish Ferries, Welsh Government, and Isle of Anglesey County Council to ensure public safety and minimise disruption.

Those in the know say that the Adventurer is the largest ferry to ever visit Fishguard, substantially longer than the previous record holder, the Stena Vision.

The Stena Adventurer promises a smooth crossing across the Irish Sea. It has a restaurant, coffee shop and bar, a duty free shop, kids play area and family zone.

There is also a Game Zone, casino games and free wifi.

Accommodation comprises of three lounges and cabins including accessible and pet friendly berths.

A spokesperson from Holyhead Port said:

“Last Saturday morning, December 7, during Storm Darragh, an incident occurred at Holyhead Port which caused damage to port infrastructure.

“As a result, the ferry berths have remained closed to all marine traffic.

“No injuries were reported, and all relevant authorities were informed of the incident.

“A thorough assessment of the extent of the damage has been ongoing, however this process is taking longer than first envisaged.

“Therefore, it is now anticipated that Holyhead Port will remain closed until at least 17:15hrs on Friday 13th December.”
