Boxing coach cooks Christmas dinner for 100 Pembrokeshire veterans

A boxing coach cooked for 100 veterans as head chef at an annual Christmas lunch for the second year running.

Christopher McEwen, who is chairman of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock ABC, Great Britain Disability Boxing and a former RAF veteran, attended the VC Gallery’s event on December 17.

The Big Christmas Lunch served all guests in one single sitting and was a reminder of the work the VC Gallery does to support the community.

“The charity supports people of all abilities. So when Steph approached me and asked if I would be interested in cooking Christmas lunch for the veterans and the community, it was a no brainer. It was an honour and a privilege.

“It will be something I commit to every year. Well done everybody at VC Gallery.”

Earlier this year, he was awarded silver at the Welsh Veterans Awards for his contribution to the Welsh Fitness Industry and Society.

The VC Gallery offers a welcoming space for veterans, people with mental health challenges, learning disabilities anyone in need of support.

Based in Pembroke Dock, the charity is dedicated to supporting veterans and the wider community through creative projects, social activities and mental health support.

This helps to foster inclusion and connections, providing a lifeline for those who need it the most.

Manager at the VC Gallery, Stephanie Cross said: “We’re thrilled to have brought people together for this special meal.

“It’s wonderful to see the community united, sharing good food and company during the festive season.”

Every week the charity runs a variety of activities to foster inclusion and well-being, making a lasting impact on the lives of locals.

On Christmas day, the VC Gallery welcomes anyone who would like to spend the holiday with them and guests are encouraged to book in advance so transport can be arranged, and everyone has the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
