Butcher flogs 10-inch pigs in blankets

A butcher is flogging girthy 10-INCH pigs in blankets that are 14 times the size of regular ones – that drooling customers are already scoffing ahead of Christmas.

The hefty hog, appropriately named The Big Pig, includes 1lb of sausage meat encased in 10 rashers of streaky bacon and is being sold at Kittow’s Quality Meats in St Austell, Cornwall.

The gut-busting Christmas side contains 1,735 calories, almost the recommended daily calorie intake of 2,000 calories for women.

There are three flavours up for grabs including a traditional pork sausage, herb sausage and a Christmassy cranberry and rosemary sausage option, with a gluten-free version also available.

Since starting to flog the £8 treats at the beginning of the month, they’ve been flying off the shelves with people freezing them ahead of the big day – or scoffing them now.

The 2.5-inch-wide meaty morsels should serve between six and eight people – or one person looking to pig out.

Hannah Wallbank, deli manager at Kittow’s Quality Meats, said: “The Big Pig is the perfect accompaniment to a Christmas turkey dinner, they look so good as a centrepiece. Everyone loves a pig in blanket, so why not super size them?

“They’re 10 inches long and serve six to eight people – or one person if they’re feeling festive.

“People are already picking them up for Christmas and freezing them, or eating them now with Sunday roasts or as part of a sharing board.”
