Call the Midwife fans ‘confused’ after much-loved midwife ‘disappears’

Call the Midwife fans were all left asking the same question as a new episode of the BBC One period drama aired on Sunday evening (January 12).

During the latest visit to 1970s, Trixie Aylward, portrayed by Helen George, cared for an unmarried and heavily pregnant woman recently released from Linchmere Mental Hospital. The district was also alarmed by a resurgence in gonorrhoea cases, prompting Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) to initiate a contact-tracing scheme run by the Greater London Council.

Elsewhere, the friendship between Nurse Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) and Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) flourished as they volunteered at a homeless shelter. But Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack) was absent from the episode leaving fans worried that she has left her role as a midwife at Nonnatus House.

In last week’s episode (January 5), Nancy and her dashing beau Roger Nobel (Conor O’Donnell) broadcasted their intention to be hitched in six months time after meeting at Christmas.

This blossoming romance between the midwife and the charming pharmaceutical salesman has picked up momentum since their festive encounter and it’s racing forward without any sign of brakes.

Adding to her windfall of good fortune, Nancy let slip that an old job proposition had resurfaced, complete with a humble home attached, perfect for a small family. Nancy and Roger then celebrated their engagement with a party.

But on Sunday, Nancy was missing from the episode sparking fear among fans that she has already left.

A third chimed in: “Also hold on where tf is Nancy #callthemidwife”, while another suggested: “She left at the end of the last episode. Got married, I think.”

“Did Nancy go, and and was there no grand finale because where is she? if she’s gone just like that, I will be steamed she’s a fan favourite and deserves better #callthemidwife,” added one fan.

“Where was Nancy this week? #CallTheMidwife,” said another.
