Catford pub with centuries-old history and rooftop bar closes permanently

A popular Catford pub and rooftop bar is set to close its doors permanently tonight.

The Catford Constitutional Club and the Fairytop Garden Zoo at 108-110 Rushey Green in Catford will serve their final drinks today (January 11).

The Catford Constitutional Club, which first opened in 1736 under a different name, faced closure in 2019, before reopening in 2024.

The Fairytop Garden Zoo is Catford’s only rooftop bar and opened in summer 2022.

The reason behind the closure has not been disclosed.

Both pubs will close at 10.30pm on Saturday, January 11.

A spokesperson for the Catford Constitutional Club said: “It is with great sadness that we will be permanently closing the Catford Constitutional Club and Fairytop Garden Zoo on January 11 at closing time.

“Join us for a last tippy.

“Thank you for your customs over the years, we hope that you have enjoyed your time here as much as we have enjoyed serving you and that we have helped you make some great memories here.”
