The bank holidays associated with Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day are set to cause changes to waste and recycling bin collections in Newport and surrounding counties.
With Christmas and New Year celebrations comes plenty of rubbish, recycling and food scraps which can leave bins overflowing.
Many households may be concerned about just how the holidays are going to impact their waste collections.
To help, we have rounded up all the changes to bin collection dates over Christmas and New Year in 2024/25 for Newport, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Caerphilly so there’s one less thing you have to worry about this festive season.

Bin collection dates over Christmas and New Year 2024/25
Newport
Waste and recycling services will operate as normal until Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25) when there will be no service.
Collections will then resume on Boxing Day (December 26) but will be collected one day later than usual – so collections will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday (December 26 to 28).
Waste and recycling services will operate as normal on December 30 and 31, but there will be no service on January 1, 2025.
Collections will resume on January 2 but will be a day later than usual – so once again collections will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (January 2 to 4).

Monmouthshire
The waste/recycling collection dates over Christmas and New Year in Monmouthshire, according to the county council’s website, are as follows:

Friday, December 27 collections will be on Sunday, December 29

Blaenau Gwent
Like Monmouthshire the recycling and refuse collections in Blaenau Gwent will be two days late after Christmas and one day late after New Year’s Eve.
Revised collections in Blaenau Gwent over Christmas and New Year, according to the county council website, will be as follows:

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council added: “Please could we remind Residents to park responsibly during the Christmas period to avoid any disruptions to your daily collections and to that of your neighbours.
“If collections cannot be made due to blocked access, crews may be unable to return.”
Caerphilly
The Christmas/New Year bin collection dates for 2024/25 in Caerphilly, according to the county borough council, are:

Torfaen
Similar to most of the other council areas all waste collections in Torfaen will take place two days later after Christmas and one day later after New Year in 2024/25.
