Crash between motorbike and van closes road for hours with one in hopsital

A 35-YEAR-OLD man is in hospital following a crash on a main road in Newport early on Wednesday morning.

Gwent Police closed a small section of Cardiff Road in Newport from approximately 6.35am on Wednesday, December 11 due to a crash.

Officers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and later confirmed that the crash had involved a van and a motorbike.

The rider of the motorbike, a 35-year-old man from Newport, has since been taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said the force did not believe the man’s injuries to be life-threatening or changing.

The road remained closed until just before 11am, when an eyewitness told the Argus the road had reopened, but a police car remained in attendance.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police issued the following statement: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on Cardiff Road, Newport, at around 6.10am on Wednesday 11 December.

“Officers attended along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

“The collision involved a van and a motorbike.

“The rider of the motorbike, a 35-year-old man from Newport, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to life-threatening or life-changing.”
