Croydon is one of the most Christmas-obsessed places in the UK

Croydon has been crowned the third most Christmas-obsessed town in the UK.

The town has 10,506 Christmas-related Google searches per 100,000 people, according to research by SEO platform Ahrefs.

This puts Croydon behind only Manchester and Bolton in terms of festive enthusiasm.

The research analysed 80 popular Christmas-related keywords, such as “Christmas”, “How many days until Christmas”, “Christmas movies”, “Christmas gift ideas”, and “Christmas music”.

The number of searches for these terms was compared against each town’s population to calculate the number of searches per 100,000 inhabitants.

Bolton topped the list with 10,967 Christmas-related searches per 100,000 people, while Manchester came second with 10,634.

Croydon, with its 10,506 searches, was the only other town to surpass the 10,000 mark.

This means Croydon has more than nine times the number of Christmas-related searches than Hastings, which was found to be the UK’s least festive town with just 1,101 searches per 100,000 people.

Tim Soulo, CMO at Ahrefs, said: “It is fascinating to see how interest in the Christmas season varies from city to city in the UK, with some cities showing comparatively little interest in Christmas, and some showing incredible enthusiasm for all things Christmas-related, from trees and decorations, to cosy Christmas pyjamas and gifts.

“Search interest can offer us powerful insights into festive trends.”

Other towns in the top 10 most Christmas-obsessed include Lincoln with 9,247 searches, Wakefield with 9,192, and Peterborough with 8,813.

At the other end of the scale, Watford was found to be the second least festive town with 1,503 Christmas-themed searches per 100,000 people, followed by Oxford with 1,505.

Woking, Nottingham, and Rotherham also made the top 10 least festive towns, with 1,616, 1,767, and 1,827 searches per 100,000 people respectively.
