‘Disgusting’ vandals destroy new £1million play equipment in Erith

Newly installed playground equipment in Riverside Gardens in Erith has been vandalised.

The equipment was set to be part of the revamped park, which is due to open in spring 2025.

Witnesses are being urged to come forward to help find who did this “disgusting act”.

Councillor Munur, Bexley’s cabinet member for growth, said: “This is a disgusting act of senseless vandalism that achieves nothing but upset in our community.

“We are working with the police and will use any evidence available to ensure that the criminal who broke into the Riverside Gardens and did this is brought to justice.

“There are lots of flats in that area and I’d urge anyone with any information that might help to come forward.”

These will be located along a ‘Thames Water promenade’ running the length of the gardens and opening them up to the riverside views.

The improvements are being delivered by the Greater Erith programme at London Borough of Bexley and are funded by the council and partners.
