Dramatic photos show crews battling fire at property

Mid and West Wales Fire Service crews battled a fire at a derelict two-storey property in Neath’s Skewen. The incident happened at 4.04pm, Sunday, December 15 and the fire service has now confirmed that the fire was started on purpose.

Fire crews from Neath, Morriston and Port Talbot Fire Stations were called to one two-storey, detached and unoccupied property that was already “well alight on their arrival.”

Fire crews used two main jets, one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus sets to put out the fire. An aerial turntable appliance was also used to extinguish the fire from above the property. Fire crews eventually left the scene of the incident at 8.51pm and the property was left severely damaged by the fire.

A statement by Mid and West Wales Fire Service said: “At 4.04pm on Sunday, December 15, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Neath, Morriston and Port Talbot Fire Stations were called to an incident in Skewen in Neath.”

“Crews responded to one two-storey, detached and unoccupied property that was well alight on their arrival. Crews utilised two main jets, one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatus sets to extinguish the fire. Crews also utilised an aerial turntable appliance to extinguish the fire from above. The fire service has said that this fire was started deliberately. It said: “This fire was started deliberately. Arson is a serious criminal offence which can potentially cause large-scale damage and even loss of life. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service has a variety of arson reduction and fire setting prevention programmes to protect the communities it serves.
