A NEWPORT drug dealer has been jailed for two years and nine months for supplying a class A drug across the city.
Ryan Hiscocks, 32, of Ringwood Hill in Ringland, Newport, was facing charges of conspiring to supply cocaine and being concerned in the supply of cocaine over a three month period, October 2023 to January 2024.
He was sentenced to years in prison today, January 9, at Cardiff Crown Court, for the charge of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
His role in supplying the cocaine to drug users across Newport and surrounding areas was described to the Judge as “significant.”
The defendant first appeared in Newport Magistrates’ Court in March 2024 alongside three others also from Newport facing the same charges.
All four members of the “drug gang” were arrested after early morning police warrants at five addresses across Newport on March 6 last year, where officers found large quantities of cocaine and other items involved in drug supply.
Prosecution told the court that although Hiscocks does have previous convictions, none of them are relevant.
Hiscocks’ defence barrister told the Judge, Recorder Robin Rouch, that before his offending, the defendant had just obtained a permanent, stable job, paying him around £22,000 per year.
It was also heard that the defendant has a six-year-old daughter that he looks after two days per week, who has been massively “let down” by her father.
It was asked that the Judge consider Hiscocks having ADHD when deciding the length of his prison term.
For his “significant role in street level dealing,” the offence of being concerned in the supply of cocaine, Judge Eugene Egan sentenced Hiscocks to 33 months in prison, which is two years and nine months.
“You have let down the two most important female’s in your life,” said Judge Egan, referring to Hiscocks’ mother and daughter.
He will serve at least half of this sentence before being released on licence.
