Former Premier League midfielder Matty James has signed a new extended contract with Wrexham.

The ex-Leicester City player was initially brought in by the League One club on a short term deal in October.

The 33-year-old was a free agent after leaving Championship side Bristol City in the summer and has impressed during his seven appearances for the Red Dragons.

Manager Phil Parkinson has now rewarded James with a new contract to extend his stay at the Racecourse until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Reacting to the news, the player said: “I’m buzzing to sign my extension with the club. It’s really good to be settled and I’m looking forward to playing as many games as I can and help try to take the club to the next level.

“I’ve got that focus and desire to keep progressing with the club and I’m really happy to be staying.”

James is a product of Manchester United’s academy and has played almost 250 games in the Championship during his career.

He also made more than 100 appearances for Leicester City and was with the club when they won the Premier League, but missed the campaign due to a serious knee injury.

After leaving the King Power Stadium, he moved to Bristol City where he also reached a century of games.

Wrexham boss Parkinson said he was happy with the impact James has made since joining the club.

He said: “I’m pleased we have agreed a deal with Matty. He has done well in his short time at the club so far and we look forward to working with him going forwards.”
