France international Sekou Macalou was shown a red card for a brutal swinging arm against Saracens.

Stade Francais hosted Mark McCall’s team at Stade Jean-Bouin on Sunday afternoon, with Sarries edging the encounter 28-17 in France.

Saracens can attribute part of their victory to the man advantage they had for most of the game. With 20 minutes played, Saracens scrum-half Ivan van Zyl peeled off the breakdown and was tripped by Macalou.

In a jaw-dropping moment of stupidity, Macalou launched his arm at the head of van Zyl, smashing his bicep directly into the temple of the Springbok international.

Wales legend Liam Williams, making his second debut for Sarries, was incensed, pleading with the touch judge to look at the incident. After referral with the TMO, referee Hollie Davidson gave Macalou a red card.

“Stade Français discipline the last two weeks has been disgraceful,” said former Dragons RFC head coach Bernard Jackman on social media.

Also playing for Saracens on the day were Williams’ fellow Wales internationals Rhys Carre and Nick Tompkins.

Saracens won the game thanks to a debut try from Williams, along with scores from Jamie George and Theo Dan. The result leaves Sarries with nine points, and one behind Northampton Saints at the top of pool three.

Next month, Saracens will face Munster away from home, before locking horns with Castres Olympique towards the end of January.
