Friends complete Monopoly themed pub crawl by drinking at 26 London pubs

Three pals spent a day doing a Monopoly-themed pub crawl around London, drinking in 26 boozers – one for each square on the board.

Jimmy Quinn, 42, and his two work friends Peter Goodman, 54, and Reiss Bathroom, 29, aimed for a half pint in each venue – spending around £120 each, including travel.

The trio set out on a Monday earlier this month to avoid the crowds, completing the challenge in 10 hours.

Jimmy says that since they all work at a West End theatre, they had the advantage of knowing their way around the city quite well – but it still took some planning.

They started at the Lord Nelson on the Old Kent Road and finished at the Flying Horse on Oxford Street.

Jimmy said: “We saw lots of people online weren’t completing it and we thought we could do it. We saw it as a challenge.

“A lot of people try to have a full pint in each pub which is just not possible. We got a bit cocky at the end and switched to pints.

“We did it with two hours to spare. In hindsight, we should have slowed down a bit, but we were so worried that we weren’t going to complete it in time.

“It was a bit pressurised at the beginning, but we really enjoyed it. We want to do it again now.

“It wasn’t a great day after, the other two booked the day off work but I didn’t – so I was not quite with it at my shift the next day.”

Jimmy, a dad-of-two from Brighton, says his favourite of the pubs they visited was The Castle on Pentonville Road.

In the days before setting off, he says he spent hours mapping out their route on Google Maps which helped with efficiency.

Though they loved the day out, Jimmy says the biggest challenge was making it to all of the venues within pub opening hours.

He added: “The big issue is the time, you have to be at the first pub at 11am when it opens because you only have until 11pm to complete it and with all the travel involved it takes that amount of time.

“You can’t spend any more than 16 minutes in each pub or you won’t do it.

“It is a lot of dedication. I believed in us and I was confident.”

Jimmy said another interesting part of the pub crawl was seeing the price difference having bought three half pints in each destination.

He noted that for all three drinks the cheapest total was £7.40, while the most expensive came to a whopping £12.40.

He joked: “The price varied a lot. The most expensive wasn’t Mayfair funnily enough! It was Piccadilly.”

After the trio returned home Jimmy decided to post their adventure on Facebook where it has received a lot of attention – with over 3,700 reactions and 950 comments.

Most comments are from other pub lovers who are now considering following in their footsteps.

Jimmy said: “I was quite surprised that so many people were commenting and liking and sharing it.

“It did shock me I didn’t expect that much traffic on it.

“I am not sure the pubs will be happy that I have sent so many people to them. But maybe they will!”

In the future, the trio are hoping to take part in a Circle line pub crawl – where you do one pub for each stop on the Tube line.
