Gavin and Stacey star puts herself forward for celebrity version of The Traitors on one condition

Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has named one condition that would see her enter Celebrity Traitors.

Last year the BBC announced a new nine-part version of the popular gameshow will see a host of famous faces trying to figure out the ‘Traitors’ from the ‘Faithful’. The murder-mystery sees contestants chosen as the Traitors as they try to remain hidden to win part of a £120,000 cash prize.

Each episode sees the Faithful and Traitors taking part in a “round table” voting to banish one contestant. However, they risk being “murdered” while a Traitor remains in the game.

As of yet, no celebrities have been confirmed to appear on the UK celebrity edition and it is not yet known when it will air. But Joanna, 47, says she would be open to heading to the Scottish Highlands to film the series on one condition.

The mum-of-four says she would not want to be away from home for too long. Speaking with Natalie Cassidy on their Off the Telly podcast, she said: “I would love to do Celebrity Traitors.”

But EastEnders legend Natalie said she thinks it would involve being away from home for at least three weeks. Joanna added: “Three weeks is quite hard, two weeks is doable.”

Natalie, who has previously taken part in Celebrity Big Brother and Strictly Come Dancing, explained she would like to be a “Traitor” if she were on the show. Joanna responded: “I bet you’d be a good Traitor.”

The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman has previously revealed she would prefer to be part of the “Faithful”. Speaking to the Radio Times, Claudia said: “I think I’d prefer to be a Faithful, but I genuinely have no idea if someone is lying to me. My 18-year-old told me she’d done all her homework for years.”

And if she was a Traitor, she says she would: “Say nothing. I would mess it up, though, within three minutes.”

There has already been a celebrity edition of the US Traitors. That series, which was filmed in the same location, featured former MP John Bercow as well as Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

The Traitors made its debut in 2022. The series finale last year was watched by over seven million people, while the series has also won awards at the BAFTAs and National Television Awards.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC’s head of entertainment, told BBC News: “The Traitors has well and truly established itself as an unmissable highlight of the year and the news of a fourth outing, alongside a brand new celebrity version coming to the BBC, will take the series to a whole new level.

“It will once again be fascinating for our audiences to see who’ll outwit, outplay, and outlast. Let the mind games begin!”

The current series of The Traitors airs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The series finale will air on January 24.
