Gethin Jones ‘proud’ as he reunites with nephew at special panto performance

Welsh TV presenter Gethin Jones has recently swapped the TV cameras for the stage as he plays Prince Charming in Cinderella at Cardiff’s New Theatre. Gethin is loving his new role – you can see the best behind-the-scenes pictures here – and recently said he was “proud” as he reunited with his nephew at a special pantomime performance.

The 46-year-old has posted about spending time with his nephew, Alby, in Cardiff before and now Alby and his school have come to watch Gethin in the pantomime. Posting a picture with Alby to Instagram, Gethin explained he wanted to join the pantomime as he knew they did special performances to cater for all.

He said: “There are many reasons why I wanted to do panto this year. As part of that, I knew @newtheatrecdf would offer performances to suit EVERYONE. Tonight was a “relaxed” performance – no pyros, sudden lighting change etc – and we introduce ourselves in our costumes at the beginning.

“Alby my nephew (who is autistic) came with his school! Managed to get a pic with him and his mate after. They said they loved it. Special, and proud x.”

Gethin had many comments on the post of fans wishing him and Alby well. One said: “Oh you’re so special!! Sending love from this Welsh family to yours, Bless you.” Another added: “This is amazing Geth! Well done x.” A third said: “What a wonderful thing to be able to do and such a special memory for Alby.” For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

Earlier this year Gethin and Alby enjoyed a day out in Cardiff for Alby’s birthday. Gethin took Alby to Roath Park and shared a series of cute pictures as the pair fed the ducks while walking around the lake.

He captioned his post with Alby: “Special few hours with the birthday boy. The final show of the day came at the park. We’ve laughed all day. Alby is a joy to be around. His autism brings an innocents and a unique comedy. His birthday present cost 70p. (Not “20 quid”).”
