A GWENT man has been arrested for drug driving after his BMW car collided with a 19-year-old girl’s Ford KA on the A467, causing them both to be hospitalised.
The crash happened late on December 18, and both the 40-year-old man and the teenage girl were sent to hospital for treatment.
Their injuries were not life-changing or life-threatening according to police.
The 40-year-old man, from Blaina, was not only arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, but also for being in possession of a blade, and for causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A467 at Brynmawr at around 10.15pm on Wednesday 18 December.
“Officers attended along with the Welsh Ambulance Service and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
“The collision involved two cars – a BMW and a Ford KA.
“The driver of the BMW, a man from Blaina, and the driver of the Ford, a 19-year-old woman from Abertillery, were taken to hospital for treatment.
“Their injuries are not believed to life-threatening or life-changing.
“The man, a 40-year-old from Blaina, was arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
“He remains in police custody at this time as our enquiries continue.
“The road, which was closed for several hours, has since re-opened.
