A Newport school has undergone a security upgrade.
The work was carried out by SECUREIT, a fire prevention and security solutions provider based in South Wales.
The work was commissioned by Rougemont School in the city in response to the forthcoming legislative recommendations of Martyn’s Law.
John Reid, head of business development for SECUREIT, said: “The need for this comprehensive security enhancement was driven by Martyn’s Law, a new legislative initiative that mandates UK organisations which cross a capacity threshold, to implement stringent security measures in areas and spaces that are accessible to the public.
“Named after Martyn Hett, one of the victims of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, Martyn’s Law imposes a duty of care on organisations, particularly those managing large venues, to ensure that robust security protocols are in place to protect the public, including pupils, parents and other visitors to premises such as schools.”
Paul Rich, director of operations for Rougemont School, said: “The project was a strategic investment in the school’s physical infrastructure which means that its facilities management provision has achieved the same high standards expected of its academic departments.
“The security upgrade involved the installation of remote controlled motorised gates, state-of-the-art CCTV systems, advanced AI-powered monitoring tools, and additional access control measures.
“These improvements provide the school with real-time surveillance, immediate threat detection, and efficient response mechanisms, all of which are crucial for educational establishments in today’s evolving legislative landscape.”
Philip Popham, SCUREIT’s managing director, said: “We are proud to have partnered with Rougemont School on this critical project.
“Our team worked closely with the school’s governing body, headteacher and management team to design and implement a security solution that not only meets the requirements of Martyn’s Law, but also reflects the school’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for the full spectrum of the community that it is proud to serve.”
The project, completed in just under three months, underscores SECUREIT’s commitment to enhancing safety and security in publicly accessible venues and education institutions, ensuring their compliance with the latest UK regulatory standards.
