‘I present Homes Under the Hammer and this is the one thing you should never do when buying a house’

Homes Under the Hammer star Martin Roberts has revealed the one thing you should never do when buying a house.

The presenter, 61, has been a staple on the BBC One property series since 2003 and the show features houses that are up for sale under auctions, it then follows the phases of the house from its auction, sale, new owners and the renovation required to the newly renovated home.

However, Martin, 61, has revealed the one thing you should never do when buying a renovation property, especially at auction. Speaking exclusively, the former I’m A Celebrity star said: “The one Homes Under the Hammer tip, outside the legal pack and always visiting beforehand, is never open the fridge.

“If there’s ever a fridge in a property… don’t open it, don’t even go there. A freezer? Even worse! Don’t even think about opening that door, we’re opening Pandora’s box of obnoxiousness.”

Elsewhere during the chat, Martin revealed the one question he is always asked by fans. He said: “The big question that a lot of people have is ‘do we only show the ones that are successful’ and the reality is no, there’s no fudging on Homes Under the Hammer, it’s completely what you see is what you get.

“Sometimes people choose not to come back on the show, if they’ve made a massive loss perhaps, I don’t know, I mean we can’t force them to come on!

“But we don’t only look for the success stories, I think it’s good to know it’s real and one of the things I do try and encourage, I do help people with education.

“In fact, I meet people all the time who say you inspired me and I enjoy Homes Under the Hammer, I got inspiration from that and now I’m doing it.”

It comes as Martin is currently renovating a pub in Blaencwm, Rhondda Cynon Taf. Martin bought the rundown Hendrewen Hotel “by accident” and is sharing the renovation process in the ‘Oops I Bought A Pub’ series on his YouTube channel.

Martin has previously described the renovation as a “passion project” that he took on after falling in love with the community of Blaencwm.

Martin Roberts was speaking to WalesOnline on behalf of 10bet. Homes Under the Hammer continues on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
