Iconic Pembrokeshire building that featured on Grand Designs reimagined in Lego

An iconic Pembrokeshire building which featured on Grand Designs has been re-created in miniature.

The former Tenby lifeboat house on Castle Hill, now repurposed as a home, was one of the stars of the series in 2011

With its unique position and its red roof retained, it continues to catch the eye – including that of the man who’s become known as the Lego Banksy.

The 55-year-old from Cardiff, who wishes to stay anonymous, delights in  making models of landmarks – particularly in Wales – out of Lego.

Along with the Tenby lifeboat station, and many others, he has modelled Penarth Pier, Cardiff Bay buildings and Cardiff City football ground,

Lego Banksy has interests in both sport and architecture, so it’s no surprise that also amongst his creations are Lords cricket ground and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

He posts pictures of his models on his social media page, minibrickarchitecture but is otherwise publicity-shy.

He told BBC Wales: “Lego makes people smile and the great thing about Lego is it appeals to 80-year-olds as much as it appeals to six-year-olds.

“Lots of people build Lego. When I played with Lego when I was a child, it was ‘I have a whole load of Lego, what can I build out of it?’

“But Lego has increasingly become instruction-based, and you can make some incredible things. What I enjoy doing and seem, for some reason, to have an eye for, is recreating in Lego what people see in the street.”

He admitted he liked the nickname Lego Banksy, coined by one of the few friends who knows what he does.

“It’s not for any great mystery bit. I’m just me, I’m nothing for anybody to get excited about,” he said.

“But hopefully what I’m building does make people excited.”
