Incredible £250m plans to build ‘world class’ holiday resort with lodges, restaurants, pool and spa on Anglesey

Plans for a £250m holiday resort on Holy Island off Anglesey have been revealed with the first of nearly 500 lodges being ready for holidaymakers this summer. Southport-based asset management company, the Seventy Ninth Group, has acquired a 200-acre site for the scheme.

The Penrhos site, which was once proposed for a similar holiday lodge project by the operators of the Bluestone resort in Pembrokeshire, already has planning consent for a holiday development.

The developer said its Penrhos, Holy Island, scheme would be a leading UK holiday destination for thousands of visitors annually. It will also include a restaurant and leisure amenities, a swimming pool, spa, gym and sports pitches (youth cricket and football) and outdoor tennis courts, which will be also be accessible to local residents.

The entire development is currently estimated to be completed in five years time, with the first lodge being available this summer. The project is expected to create hundreds of new jobs once fully operational and inject millions into the economy.

In partnership with Isle of Anglesey County Council, Holyhead Town Council and key stakeholders, the Seventy Ninth Group, said the project will aim to maximise local employment and supply chain opportunities. Some £1m is being pledged to local initiatives as part of the project.

Its other leisure projects include a holiday lodge scheme on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland. Some local campaigners have opposed any development, citing fears about losing access to the coastal park, which lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Jake Webster, Seventy Ninth Group managing director: “We look forward to developing the site into a world-class holiday destination in conjunction with the local community, while ensuring we protect the environment for future generations. Our aim is to give families from the UK and visitors from all over the world a chance to experience what this fantastic area has to offer.”

Leader of Anglesey Council, Gary Pritchard: “This is a significant potential development in terms of the local economy. The commitment to progress in a sensitive and inclusive manner is welcomed, as is the commitment to engaging with the local community. We look forward to working with the Seventy Ninth Group to develop key themes including local employment, supply chain opportunities, sustainability, and safeguarding the Welsh language.”

David Webster, Seventy Ninth Group chairman, said: “The Penrhos site is our largest project to date and embarking on such a significant development would not be possible without the support of our clients, customers and investors. We see tremendous opportunity in UK holiday lettings and have specifically sought acquisitions in this area, as part of our ever-expanding portfolio.”

Anglesey Council chief executive, Dylan J. Williams, said: “This is a sensitive site which is visited by residents for recreational and enjoyment purposes. Whilst there are substantial direct and indirect economic benefits, balancing investment with environmental sensitivity will be important. We look forward to having meaningful engagement and establishing a long-term working relationship with the Seventy Ninth Group.
