James Corden issues emotional thank you to Gavin and Stacey fans after finale

James Corden has thanked fans for tuning into the Gavin and Stacey finale after it secured the highest Christmas Day ratings since 2008.

The hit BBC sitcom first aired between 2007 and 2010 telling the long-distance love story of title characters Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page).

The show returned in 2019 for a Christmas special which ended on a cliffhanger with Nessa (Ruth Jones) proposing to Smithy (Corden).

The special episode at the time held the record for the highest overnight Christmas ratings since 2008, with 11.6 million people tuning in to watch.

Gavin and Stacey retuned for one final episode on Christmas Day in 2024.

Corden – who co-wrote the series with Jones – has now issued an emotional farewell and thank you to fans following the Gavin and Stacey finale.

The 46-year-old posted “behind the scenes” photos on Instagram from on set of Gavin and Stacey: The Finale.

The post included snaps of him alongside some of the stars of the show including Horne, Page, Jones, Rob Brydon (Uncle Bryn) and Alison Steadman (Pam).

Along with the photos, Corden wrote: “Here’s some behind the scenes photos from the special. Thank you so much to everyone who watched last night.

“It means more than you’ll know. All my love, James xx.”
