Jo Stevens to be grilled by MPs on her priorities as Wales Secretary

THE Wales Secretary is set to be quizzed by MPs on her priorities in office.

On Wednesday, January 15, MPs will question Jo Stevens MP on her priorities in office.

Upon her appointment, the Secretary of State said she planned to “reset the relationship” between the Welsh Government and Westminster.

MPs will ask how she plans to deliver on the promise and her other stated priorities, which include working with the Council of Nations to improve policy-making, protecting steel communities, and ensuring decisions on money are made in Wales.

Topics likely to be raised by members include how changes to inheritance tax will affect Welsh farmers, what the government is doing to protect those disrupted by the closure of Holyhead Port, and how the UK and Welsh Governments will work together on renewable energy, cross-border healthcare, and rail infrastructure.

Members are also likely to discuss the future of steelmaking at Port Talbot and the impact of job losses at the Tata plant, in relation to a recently launched inquiry.

The evidence session will be held in Committee Room 15 at the Palace of Westminster at 2.30pm and will be available to stream live on Parliamentlive.tv.
