Wales legend Jonathan Davies has undergone a second surgery in a matter of months as the dual-code icon had a cage inserted into his back.

The 62-year-old recently had a knee replacement in September. And, having recovered from that, the beloved TV commentator has now had surgery on his back.

“Now recovering from second operation, first knee replacement in September,” he posted on X. “Yesterday to insert cage into my back and 4 screws.

“All those tackles I missed. Wouldn’t change a thing!”

Davies had revealed earlier this year that he was due to undergo knee surgery in a wide-ranging interview with WalesOnline, while he had also floated the possibility of back surgery this month.

“It’s good, actually,” Jiffy said in August about his life in general. “Just falling apart a bit.

“I’ve got a knee replacement coming up in September and I might need a back operation in December. It’s wear and tear. I’ve just got to maybe sit back a bit in the autumn and get ready for next year. I’m still fit and they’ve been telling me to do it for a while.

“I did my cruciate in 1982 so I played all my rugby career with a dodgy knee. So it’s time to get it done now. But apart from that, it’s all good. It’s chilled. Kids are grown up, work is going well. Health is good with most of the family. I can’t complain.”

His wife Jay told WalesOnline at the time that she had tried to get the former Wales fly-half to slow down a little, but that it wasn’t really working.

“I’ve tried,” she said, “but it doesn’t make a difference. If I say I don’t think you should do this, he’ll probably want to do it even more. He’s so determined and stubborn.

“He’s 61 and he’s still doing bike rides. He’s still out there. He just pushes himself and always thinks his body is crumbling. He’s having a knee replacement and he’s got his back operation.

“But his mindset is that if he’ll have to miss this next one (charity ride), he’ll be back for the one after once he’s a bionic man again. There’s no stopping him.”

In August of this year, Davies completed another of his gruelling charity bike rides, cycling 50 miles between Cardiff and Swansea for raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre. This year has seen the money he’s helped raise with Velindre move past the £50m mark.
