Large group of youths throw eggs and stones at houses

Police have been granted extra powers for one part of Wales after a surge in anti-social behaviour. North Wales Police say that a dispersal order and an increased police presence is in place in areas of Rhos, Ponciau and Johnstown in Wrexham.

The order has been in place since 4pm on Sunday, December 22 and lasts until 4pm on Tuesday, December 24 following what the force says is a rise in the number of incidents since the end of October.

In a statement of the notice they said: “We have received a number of reports of a large group of youths intimidating members of the public by throwing stones and eggs at vehicles and houses, theft and causing a nuisance at retail premises. “It gives officers and PCSOs the power to direct anybody engaging in anti-social behaviour to leave the area and not to return.”

The order is the latest dispersal notice to be placed in the area, with one in place for Wrexham city centre over the weekend after reports of approximately 25 young troublemakers assaulting individuals, vandalising properties, racially abusing locals, and using drugs, as well as intimidating both staff and patrons at shops, eateries, and near the Wrexham bus station.

Sergeant Stuart Roberts said: “Intimidating members of the public is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. We are taking every report of anti-social behaviour in these areas seriously and remind anyone who fails to comply with this dispersal order that they will be arrested.

“I have today spoken with local councillors from the area around the concerns and advise residents to report incidents to us on 101, or via the website at the earliest opportunity. I once again urge parents to discuss this with your children and ensure you know where they are and what they are up to.”
