Lifeboat treasurer with ‘lovely nature’ dies after 26 years of service

A treasurer with a ‘lovely nature’ has died following 26 years of service at a Pembrokeshire lifeboat station.

John James was part of the station management team at St Davids RNLI.

His role involved making sure that volunteers’ expenses were covered and keeping track of local accounts.

RNLI St Davids Lifeboat posted on Facebook: “It is with shock and sadness in our hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our lifeboat station treasurer, John James.

“John has been part of the station fabric for 26 years operating as part of our station management team, ensuring that volunteers got training expenses covered and keeping our local accounts in order.

“His friendly personality and lovely nature will be sorely missed by us all at St Davids RNLI and the wider St Davids community.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with John’s family, friends, and all those who were close to him.”

Meanwhile, tributes have poured in from locals expressing their sadness.

Mike Chant wrote: “So very sad to hear this news. John was a kind and gentle soul.

“Always patient, reliable and part of the very fabric of the St Davids community.

“He was loved by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed. Rest easy lovely man.”

Andy Middleton added: “So sad to hear. The truest of community servants and gentlemen, continually encouraging people around him to do good work. He’ll be sorely missed.

Audrey Thomas also said: “He was such a lovely man and will be missed so much.”
