Louis Rees-Zammit rocked up at a Cardiff pub on Friday on his return to Wales following the culmination of his NFL side’s disappointing season. The Wales rugby winger turned NFL receiver is on a break after his Jacksonville Jaguars side failed to qualify for the play-offs which begin this weekend.
Jaguars finished second bottom of AFC South and sacked head coach Doug Pedersen this week. Pedersen was the man who gave Rees-Zammit his chance with the Jaguars after the 23-year-old took the risk to leave rugby to pursue his American dream and initially joined Kansas City Chiefs.
The season didn’t go entirely to plan for Rees-Zammit either. Had the Jaguars made it to the play-offs it was unlikely the Welshman would have featured anyway, given he hasn’t played a minute for the franchise this season.
The 2025/2026 season of the NFL does not begin until September, with pre-season games taking place in August. There will be a new draft soon and Rees-Zammit is not guaranteed a place on the team again, sparking some questions on where he’ll end up next.

But for now Rees-Zammit has returned home for a rest. And he posted a picture of himself in the Pontcanna Inn on Cardiff’s Cathedral Road on Friday with the caption: “And we’re back.”
Earlier this month he was also in positive mood, reflecting on the year by telling fans: “What a crazy year it’s been. Can’t thank everyone enough for the support I’ve had over the last 12 months. Can’t wait to see what the future holds in 2025.”
