Luke Williams set to jet out to watch duo as Swansea City assess Joe Low alternatives

Luke Williams is set to fly out to the Netherlands this weekend as the club assesses alternatives to Wycombe Wanderers star Joe Low.

It’s understood Williams is set to cast an eye over two possible centre-back options, with the club seemingly no closer to a breakthrough in negotiations for Low, who had previously emerged as Swansea City’s top target this January.

At the time of writing, Swansea haven’t yet walked away from a move for the Wales international, who’s understood to be keen on a move to the Championship. Chairman Andy Coleman could well consider offering up a player in a bid to soften Wycombe’s stance, but it seems the Swans are now assessing other options this winter.

Swansea’s pursuit of Low has been potentially complicated by the departure of manager Matt Bloomfield, who recently left Adams Park to join Luton Town, and Williams admits there’s now unlikely to be any imminent decision on the Wales international’s future. “I think at the moment, they’re not going to be doing anything because the manager that comes in is going to want to have a say on that,” he said.

“I think at the moment, we’re probably waiting as much as they are.

“This one’s not completely down to us now. The manager’s left and it means some business has to be done their end before they move on a key player or even talk about moving on a key player.

“If you’re going into that club now, or interviewing for that job, as a potential head coach or manager, I’m pretty sure you’d want to have a say on what happens with Joe Low.

“He’s been a top, top performer for them. A top performer for the level and they’re going very well. You’re going to want to know what’s going on there.”

Williams has already run the rule over potential targets on these shores, and is currently preparing his side for a hugely important South Wales derby clash with Cardiff City on Saturday lunchtime, and says his primary focus is currently on giving the fans a day to remember in the capital.

However, the club’s transfer plans will kick into gear soon after the dust has settled on events at Cardiff City Stadium.

“It sounds corny, but you immediately think about what the fans will be able to do,” he added. “The thought they can go out so happy and thoroughly enjoy it.

“We have a game on the Tuesday, and I fly to Europe on Sunday to watch a player. Then come back and prepare for the next game. I hope I have a hangover on the plane!

“I’m flying to the Netherlands,” he added when pressed on his destination this weekend.

“There’s nothing to tell you about at the moment, I’m afraid,” he continued. “Other than I’m at the stage where I’m going to go and look at players and make sure they’re everything we hope they are. Then of course, we still need to get a deal done once we’re all on the same page.

“There’s work going on, and I’d love to say that something’s going to happen tomorrow, but we’re not there yet.”
