M25 to remain closed ‘for several hours’ after ‘serious’ crash involving pedestrian

The M25 near Orpington is expected to remain closed for several hours after a “serious” crash involving a pedestrian.

All traffic has stopped on the M25 clockwise between junctions 3 and 4 since around 10.15am today (December 18).

National Highways confirmed that the road is expected to be closed into the afternoon as the incident is being dealt with.

They have advised motorists to “allow extra journey time” and “plan ahead” by delaying their journeys.

The incident has caused miles of traffic and severe delays in the area.

Drivers affected by the incident are being advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol and take the following route:

  • Exit the M25 clockwise at the J3 Swanley Interchange.

  • At the roundabout, take 5th exit onto A20 towards London.

  • Continue until the A224 roundabout (Crittal’s Corner)

  • At Crittal’s Corner roundabout, take 1st exit onto A224 towards Orpington.

  • At A224 / M25 Link Hewitts Roundabout take 1st exit onto M25 link and at next roundabout M25 Junction 4 take 2nd exit to rejoin M25 clockwise towards Gatwick.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at 9.45am on 18 December, following a crash involving a pedestrian on the clockwise M25 near junction 4.

“Officers are in attendance, along with other emergency services, and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.”
