Man charged with murder after dad-of-three killed in Acton ‘fight’

A man is set to appear in court charged with the murder of 33-year-old Nash Clyne in Acton.

Benjamin Matthews, 50, of Acton will appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court today (December 10) charged with murder after his arrest on December 9.

It follows reports of a fight in Birkbeck Road shortly after 4am on December 8, with possible shots heard.

The Metropolitan Police were dispatched to the scene with the London Ambulance Service, where Clyne was found seriously injured.

He died a short time later and his family are now being supported by specialist officers.

A post mortem examination will take place in the coming days to determine the cause of his death.

At least three other people were injured during the incident, with no further injuries believed to be life threatening.

The nature and cause of the injuries have yet to be confirmed.

Friends of Clyne have paid tribute to him, saying he was a “father figure in the community”, according to Metro.

Shevonte Thomas, a childhood friend who went to school with him, told Metro: “He was a great, cool guy. He had three kids.

“He liked cooking and when we were young playing football. I don’t know how this could have happened. He was a nice, quiet guy.”

A second arrest was made on December 9 of a 34-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in relation to the wider disorder that took place over the weekend.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Det Chf Insp Brian Howie said: “A team of experienced detectives is working at pace to establish why Nash was murdered and bring those responsible to justice.

“We are urging anyone who was in the area or who knows anything about what happened to come forward.

“We particularly want to hear from anyone who was at the Front Line Cuts barber shop or the Paradise Cuts barber shop, both in Acton High Street, between 22:00hrs on Saturday and 04:30hrs on Sunday.

“What you know, however insignificant it may seem now, could hold the key to this investigation.”
