Man dies following incident at bridge

A man has died after an incident at a bridge. Sedbury Bridge in Chepstow was closed from around 6pm on Thursday following reports of a police incident.

Police officers from Gwent Police arrived at the scene along with the Welsh Ambulance Service, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and Severn Area Rescue Association. A man was later confirmed to have died by paramedics. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter.

It is understood that the road remained shut for a number of hours. A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report that a man had fallen from the Sedbury Bridge, in Chepstow, at around 5.15pm on Thursday, December 12.

“Officers attended, alongside personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA). A man was later found in the water and paramedics confirmed he had died. His next of kin are aware and will be supported by specialist officers.”
