Man stabbed to death in Tottenham ‘after fight’ named as father-of-two

A 36-year-old man stabbed to death in Tottenham was father-of-two Gregory Castillo Volquez, police have said.

Mr Volquez, a Dominican Republic national, was killed after reports of a fight in Tottenham’s Tiverton Road shortly before 5am on Monday.

Despite the best efforts of officers, paramedics and the London Air Ambulance, the 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A formal post-mortem examination is due to take place on Thursday, a Met Police spokesperson said.

Four people – three men and a woman – have since been arrested in connection with Mr Volquez’s death.

Met Detective Inspector Jim Barry, who is leading the investigation, said: “In the early hours of Monday morning, two children tragically lost their father.

“Our officers acted swiftly and arrested three men and one woman on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody.

“We recognise this is a worrying time for those in Haringey and residents can expect to see more police in the area while we conduct our enquiries.

“If anyone saw this senseless attack, or was nearby, please come forward and speak to our officers. We are particularly interested in any mobile phone footage from around the surrounding area.

“Our thoughts remain with Gregory‘s family, who are being supported by trained officers at this heart-breaking time.”

A mother who lives close to the scene previously told of her shock, telling the Standard: “It’s been an absolute nightmare. I could not even take my kids to school. I wasn’t allowed to move my car.

“The entire block was cordoned off from 5am. As my partner left this morning he had to be escorted out by police.”

“I have only lived here nearly a year. This is the first time I have seen something like this. There is normally nothing. It’s really peaceful.

“As soon as we came out of the block there was blood all over the floor. There was a tent, everything.

“There are lots of forensics. There were four or five vans of them. There are still police here. Everything is cordoned off.”

Witnesses are asked to contact 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 with any information, quoting the reference 809/13JAN.
