Man taken to hospital after being hit by item from lift shaft in Plumstead

A man has been taken hospital after he was struck on the head by an item which fell from lift shaft at a building site in Plumstead.

Emergency services were called to the building site next to Greenwich Community College in Plumstead Road at 9.05am today (December 18).

The man was found injured and was taken to hospital, where his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police have sealed off the lift shaft at the site and cordons remain around Plumstead Road and the junction with Villas Road.

Ambulance crews, including a London Air Ambulance, were at the scene, with the first of crews arriving in five minutes.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to 95 Plumstead Road at 09:05hrs on Wednesday, 18 December to a report of a man being struck on the head by an item which fell down a lift shaft.

“The officers will remain on the scene to assist colleagues from the London Ambulance Service, and will seal the lift shaft to prevent further injuries after being asked by the Health and Safety Executive.

“The man’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.”
