Lifelong Manchester United fan Luke Littler is set to take to the Old Trafford pitch after his stunning World Darts Championship win.

The 17-year-old has been invited to the stadium to showcase the Sid Waddell Trophy, having beaten Michael van Gerwen in last week’s final to become the youngest world champion in history.

Littler is set to parade the trophy around the pitch ahead of United’s home Premier League clash with Brighton on January 19, the day after he is scheduled to return from competing at the World Series of Darts event in Bahrain, according to The Sun.

After sealing the title, the teenager told reporters: “Obviously, I’d love to take [the trophy] there. If they allow me to, then I am sure I will go to Old Trafford.”

“I saw Michael Smith did it with the world title when he went to St Helens rugby league club.”

After bursting on to the scene at Alexandra Palace last year, Littler was given a special invitation to watch United play Tottenham in the Premier League, while he also met iconic manager Alex Ferguson during the match.

He was later invited to the club’s Carrington training ground, where he took part in a nine-dart challenge alongside players Harry Maguire and Christian Eriksen.
