The Met Office has issued a warning for “strong winds” for a large part of Wales. The warning, which covers the entirety of the west coast and most of north Wales, is in place from 3pm on Tuesday, December 17 to 8am on Wednesday. The full warning reads: “Southerly winds will strengthen through Tuesday afternoon, evening and night, with gales developing along some exposed coasts. Peak gusts of 40-50 mph are likely fairly widely inland, with perhaps 50-60 mph in more exposed places, including along some coasts.
“This may lead to some disruption to ferry crossings, with tricky travelling conditions possible on higher level and west-east routes. Winds will start to ease in Northern Ireland during the early hours of Wednesday, and then in many other areas around or after dawn.”
The new warning comes less than a fortnight after Storm Darragh caused chaos across Wales. The storm saw a rare red danger to life warning issued, as gusts of over 93mph battered the country. Wales was the region worst affected by the storm, with hundreds of trees falling and the roofs of some buildings collapsing. A major incident was issued by one police force asking people not to travel.
