Met Office weather forecast shows how cold it will get this weekend as -5C expected

Met Office weather maps have shown how cold it will get this weekend as temperatures are set to hit -5C in some areas on Friday, January 10. Despite the cold weather snap, it is set to get a little warmer through the weekend, especially on Sunday, January 12.

Expect lows of -3C in some areas of Wales on Saturday morning, January 11, but it will get slightly warmer as the day goes on, the forecast predicts. Temperatures have been low, in particular on Friday morning, which coincided with another weather warning for ice.

Friday, January 10

9am

At 9am, it is set to be as cold as -5C in areas such as Wrexham in Wales. It will be around -2C in Newtown in Powys and -1C in Caernarfon in Gwynedd.

10am

Friday 10am -Credit:Met Office

After lows of -4C and -5C during the early hours of Friday morning, it is set to be warmer for most of Wales. Most places will experience temperatures of 1C and 2C by 10am, but other areas could experience temperatures of 0C, and even -1C and -2C in parts of north Powys.

3pm

By the afternoon, it will get slightly warmer. Around 4C for areas such as Aberystwyth, Pembroke and Swansea, while it will be 3C in areas such as Caernarfon in the north and Cardiff in the south. It will continue to be a bit colder in the inland areas, with temperatures of 0C in Llanwddyn in Powys, 1C in Wrexham and 2C in Builth Wells.

6pm

As expected, temperatures will drop as we progress into the evening. It will be particularly cold in the north-east, with temperatures of around -3C in Wrexham, -2C in Ruthin and -1C in St Asaph. It will also be cold down in south Powys, wirth temperatures of around -1C in Hay-on-Wye and 0C in Brecon.

Temperatures will drop further. By 9pm, it will be -4C in Wrexham, -3C in Newtown and -2C in Monmouth. It will remain slightly warmer to the west, 3C in St David’s and 4C in Pembroke over in Pembrokeshire.

Cold air will continue to spread more in the inland areas of Wales. -2C for areas such as Bala in Gwynedd and Builth Wells in Powys, while it will be around -3C for places such as Wrexham and Newtown, 0C in Merthyr Tydfil and 1C in Carmarthen. But around 4C in areas of the west coast.

Saturday, January 11

Early Saturday, it will be particularly cold in the north-east once again. Lows of around -2C and -3C in Wrexham and north Powys, and even -4C in areas closer to the border.

9am

It will gradually get warmer as the day goes by. At 9am, it will be around 0C in Cardiff, 2C in Aberystwyth and around 4C in Pembroke.

12pm

There will be a bit of sunshine midday on Saturday, with temperatures of around 5C for some parts.

7pm

And it looks like the milder temperatures will be here to stay on Saturday.

Temperatures will drop slightly for some areas, with the north-east once again experiencing the cold of 1C, 0C and even -1C in some areas.

Sunday, January 12

Early Sunday morning, it will be around 4C in Aberystwyth, 5C in Caernarfon and 6C in Pembroke. Lows of 1C, 0C and -1C will be hitting the north-east of Wales, while it will be around 0C and 1C in the south east.

By midday on Sunday, temperatures will be a lot warmer than they have been over the weekend. Around 7C-8C on the west Wales coastline from Caernarfon down to Pembroke, 4C in the north-east and mid Wales areas, and around 6C in areas of Carmarthenshire.

Temperatures will remain relatively similar into Sunday evening.
