The Monmouth Raft Race has raised £20,042 this year for charitable causes.
The funds will be split between St David’s Hospice Care (£15,031), Rotary Monmouth (£3,006), and the Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) (£2,004).
The annual event is organised by St David’s Hospice Care, bolstered by support from the Rotary Monmouth and SARA.
A spokesperson for the hospice care said they are “eternally grateful” for the support shown by participants and the Rotary Monmouth club.
The Monmouth Raft Race is a highly anticipated event in the community calendar, drawing participants and spectators from across the region.
The event is set to return in 2025 on Sunday, September 7.
The race, which takes place on the River Wye, sees teams build and race their own rafts over a six-mile stretch from Monmouth to Whitebrook.
The funds raised provide crucial support for St David’s Hospice Care, a charitable organisation offering comprehensive, palliative care to patients, families, and carers facing life-limiting illnesses across Southeast Wales.
St David’s Hospice Care is one of the UK’s largest providers of hospice-at-home care, supporting more than 3,500 patients and families each year.
SARA, another beneficiary of the funds, is a volunteer lifeboat and inland search and rescue charity with seven lifeboat and rescue stations along the River Severn.
The charity is called out more than 100 times every year.
