An independent Monmouthshire optician’s practice has won a national award.
Monnow Eyecare, based in Monmouth, was recognised for its ‘dedication and outstanding service’ to the community at the Optician Awards on November 22.
The practice was awarded the Enhanced Optical Service Award, placing it on an industry level against practices across the UK.
The Optician Awards, held by Optician Magazine, honour practices and individual professionals within the optical industry across the UK and Ireland who demonstrate high levels of clinical excellence and dedication to their community.
Since its establishment in 2003, Monnow Eyecare has supported the development of enhanced eye care services in Wales, while building strong relationships with patients in and around the Monmouth area.
Upon receiving the award, director and optometrist at Monnow Eyecare, Adib Missaghi, said: “Since joining Monnow Eyecare over two years ago, I have had the privilege of witnessing this incredible team grow and achieve so much.
“This year, we were honoured to receive this recognition at the Opticians Awards, a true testament to the dedication, expertise, and passion of our entire team.
“Helen and I, alongside the rest of the team, are deeply proud of this achievement and remain committed to delivering excellence in everything we do.”
Helen Tilley, director and optometrist, added: “We couldn’t have achieved this without our entire team working together towards a shared vision of providing clinical excellence to all our patients.”
The Enhanced Optical Service Award was created to recognise a practice that offers additional services to cater to all patients at a high standard.
Monnow Eyecare has curated a wide range of specialist services within the team.
Ms Tilley said: “Each of our qualified optometrists possesses at least one area of special interest, with many holding multiple advanced qualifications.
“This expertise enables the delivery of a comprehensive suite of enhanced services, supported by strategic investments in cutting-edge equipment, regular audits, a culture of peer support, and continuous quality improvement driven by patient feedback.”
Monnow Eyecare offers low vision services, glaucoma services, medical retina services, and paediatric eye care, among many more specialist areas.
The team has three optometrists – Helen, Barbara and Scott, with Independent Prescribing qualifications, which allows them to offer more clinical assessment and management where necessary.
Mr Missaghi said: “It’s really important to us that all of our patients are able to access the eye care that they need and that each individual in the community feels seen and tailored to.”
