Morrisons shopper ‘gutted’ after seeing what Christmas items have been replaced with on shelves

A Morrisons’ shopper has been left gutted after spotting Easter eggs for sale in a branch of the store. Victoria Leyton was left astounded when she walked into a Morrisons in Hillsborough after Christmas only to find Easter eggs and other related paraphernalia sitting on the shelves.

Expressing her astonishment, Victoria, 40, said: “I went to my local Morrisons hoping to hoover up post-Christmas goodies and I’m gutted to see they have all disappeared and they have already started putting the Easter eggs out. Where are my clearance Selection Boxes please?”

Expanding on her dismay at Easter products being advertised despite it being over 100 days away, Victoria added: “You also used to be able to go in and sneakily sweep up some really cute gifts for people you weren’t seeing immediately, but feels like days of the big post-holiday discounts are over; unless you want sprouts.

“[It is] disappointing to not be able to enjoy the last few days of little Christmas treats. Life feels quick enough without a time jump to Easter in December.”

Victoria isn’t the first shopper to express surprise at the early arrival of Easter based treats in stores with other customers also taking to social media to express even more passionate disgust at the changes.

BirminghamLive reported that one customer questioned: “Why are they showing Easter eggs? We haven’t even got over December or New Year, what’s the rush?”

Another shopper added: “Just disgraceful, before the end of January they will be pushing barbecue food and sun loungers.” A third wrote: “Corporate commercialism and greed. I guess they have to recoup the loss of giving Pixie free mince pies to gaslight shoppers”

Whist several customers of several supermarkets who had chosen to stock up early were enraged by the commercial decision, others came to the supermarket’s defence.

One person said the reason the Easter eggs were in shops so early was because people “like to plan ahead” whilst a HGV driver revealed the practice wasn’t new and he’d been delivering Easter eggs on Boxing Day for several years.

They said: “I drive a HGV for a major supermarket and have delivered Easter eggs from depot to store from Boxing Day onwards for many years now.”

The HGV driver’s defence of the supermarkets was echoed by Victoria who also admitted that the tactic worked for the shopper who likes to plan well ahead. She said: “Fair play to anyone who shops in advance to this scale but they’re not even a good deal – and the unlucky recipients will need to race to finish them as they’ll go off quicker.”

Morrisons has been approached for comment and confirmed Easter eggs are now on sale in all stores.
