A Senedd Member for Caerphilly has praised a wellbeing community for its ‘brilliant’ work.
Hefin David MS recently joined a session with Thriving Communities, a group founded by GP Dr Manmeet Kaur.
On Friday, December 13, Thriving Communities held a volunteer gathering at Llanbradach Community Centre, welcoming 10 new volunteers as well as celebrating compassion, connection and a shared purpose.
The meeting – which united the new volunteers with existing ones – began with an overview of the group’s scope and aspirations, followed by a round-table introduction session where attendees shared personal stories.
A common theme of facing challenges and overcoming adversity emerged during these discussions.
Dr David said: “It was a pleasure to join the group here today.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect of the session, but it was brilliant.

“It really is amazing how speaking openly amongst others about how we feel and our own personal challenges can bring about a real sense of support.
“It helps you feel less alone.”
He also expressed his admiration for the group’s extensive activities and volunteer support.
He said: “I really can’t believe the extent of the group.
“There are so many volunteers who want to help each other and so many different things going on.
“In January they will be running a breathwork course.
“They also do yoga, meditation, social get-togethers and other activities which really foster a shared sense of purpose and make you feel a part of something.
“I’m looking forward to coming back for another session and will support the group however I can.”
Thriving Communities is also responsible for the Hengoed Happiness and Wellbeing Facebook group, which facilitates walks, meditation, and social activities.
The group will be hosting a Christmas lunch social on Christmas Day in Bargoed.
Thriving Communities is always looking for more volunteers to join their supportive and uplifting community.
The group offers free training, mentoring, and support for all volunteers, and provide opportunities to contribute to wellbeing programmes and community projects.
