A PONTYPOOL daughter said her father almost died due to a lack of care at a GP practice in the town.
“Michael Adams ended up in hospital because of their lack of care and nearly died more than once because of it,” said Hannah Adams about the care her father, Michael received at the Trosnant Lodge surgery, a GP practice in Pontypool.
“My dad recently had issues where they couldn’t be bothered to check him over properly, ended up him in hospital nearly dying,” said Ms Adams.
A spokesman for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board said: “We’re very sorry that Mr Adams’ family is unhappy with the care that he received and send our best wishes to him during his recovery.
“We would urge Mr Adams to contact us directly so that we can discuss the treatment received and any concerns regarding his GP Practice.”
The Argus has reached out to Trosnant Lodge surgery for a comment.
Ms Adams claims her father’s doctors “repeatedly sent him home and said ‘take painkillers'” but did not check his blood pressure or temperature for a 3 month period earlier this year.
According to Ms Adams, her father had a heart attack at home and was rushed to hospital.
Mr Adams was taken to The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran and treated. It was also found that he had pneumonia, according to Ms Adams.
Ms Adams said her dad was admitted at The Grange University Hospital on April 3 for his heart attack but that he was “sent him home a bit too early as he was still unwell”.
A few weeks later, she said he was admitted to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport on May 8 and transferred to The Grange University Hospital to have his lung drained.
Mr Adams left on May 22 and has been on the road to recovery since.
His daughter said: “He’s getting there but without medication [it] would prove fatal and they keep losing his prescriptions.”
Ms Adams said she is now wary around the care he is being provided, saying: “He will be back in hospital.
“If they done there job he wouldn’t have ended up in hospital at all, not once over numerous appointments did they even check his blood pressure, completely missed a infection which led to him having a drain in his lung.”
Ms Adams said the ordeal has had lasting affects on her own mental health, as she worried about her father.
During that period she was “going to see him everyday at the hospital not even knowing if he made it through the night.”
