Taron Egerton has said that his new Netflix film role will be perfect for viewers who “don’t like” him. The 35-year-old actor from Aberystwyth is appearing in an action thriller movie called Carry-On, which was released on the streaming platform on Friday, December 13.
The Welsh actor, who was born on Merseyside before moving to Wales as a child will star as the main character, Ethan Kopek, a young TSA -customs officer in the USA, who is blackmailed to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight. While promoting the film, the actor explained that the film is similar to the iconic Christmas film Die Hard, which starred American actor Bruce Willis as John McLane.
The Welsh actor also jokingly noted that the film would appeal to those who dislike him as an actor. During a promotional video clip ahead of the Netflix film release, the actor had to decide his top 10 Christmas films.

Egerton placed the 1992 musical film The Muppet Christmas Carol at number one, citing it as one of his favourite Christmas film. The actor also shared his love for other Christmas films such as Love Actually, Elf and Die Hard, the latter of which he described as “amazing”.
When discussing his Carry-On film, he said: “Carry-On is a Christmas movie in the Die Hard tradition. Do you know what the beauty of a film like Carry-On is?
“If you don’t like me, and you’ve maybe seen my work and I’m not to your taste as an actor, that’s fine. This will be so satisfying for you, because I am in such pronounced stress for an hour and 59 minutes that you may enjoy the movie more for me being in it.”
The Welsh actor is widely known for starring in various films, such as Testament of Youth, Eddie the Eagle, Sing, Kingsman and as Elton John in his biopic film Rocketman. Egerton is set to appear in a new crime thriller film titled She Rides Shotgun, which has yet to be announced and is based on a 2017 novel of the same name by Jordan Harper.
