Newly-refurbished children’s play area in the city officially reopens

A CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA in Duffryn, Newport has been officially reopened following its refurbishment.

Kestrel Way playpark in Duffryn Newport is one of several parks being refurbished following improvement consultations.

A project to upgrade play areas to provide children with safe and fun spaces to play secured funding from the 2022 budget consultations.

This involved multiple stages, including consultation events to gather feedback from the community on design, planning, and implementation.

The refurbishment work began in the summer

In a post on Facebook on August 8, Cllr Rhian Howells said: “Further good news for the play parks in the ward.

“The Council hope to begin work on upgrading Kestral Way playpark in Duffryn in the next week or so. Once under way, work should take about six weeks to complete.”

While some time has now passed the six-week benchmark, the park has now officially been opened this month.

The Kestrel Way playpark was opened by the local councillor Rhian Howells and the Mayor of Newport, Councillor Ray Mogford.

“Thanks to the children of Tredegar Park Primary for joining us for this special event and having a whale of a time on the new equipment.”

The Mayor of Newport, Councillor Ray Mogford said: “It was a pleasure to be there for the opening of the Kestrel Way Play Area.

“May it be appreciated and treasured by the community for generations to come, creating lasting memories and shared joy.”
