Nursery with ‘fully Welsh medium context’ opens at Pembrokeshire school

A nursery with a ‘fully Welsh medium context’ opened at a Pembrokeshire school in September.

Maenor Aur, which is based at the Ysgol Bro Penfro school site in Pembroke, offers the opportunity for children to learn the Welsh language.

In the nursery pupils are encouraged to learn Welsh words and phrases while spending time in a happy and caring environment.

“I am certain that by working collaboratively we will be able to develop a successful and thriving educational setting.

“Our fantastic new building and learning environment will help us to provide children with the opportunity to flourish in a fully Welsh medium context.”

Mr Hughes continued: “This partnership will ensure that as the children transition from Maenor Aur into the Nursery class at Ysgol Bro Penfro they will be ready for the next chapter in terms of their development as young learners.

“Our motto at Ysgol Bro Penfro is ‘O’r Sylfeini i’r Ser, which translated means ‘From the Foundations to the Stars’.

“There is no doubt that the foundations that will be put in place at Maenor Aur in terms of developing the children’s social, linguistic and learning skills will prove to be invaluable.”

The playrooms provide easy access to outdoor play with a door leading straight outside to an enclosed area.

There is also an inhouse chef who serves home cooked meals daily and wraparound care with no transport fees.

With Flying Start Provision, two years olds are entitled to 12.5 hours of funded childcare.

Meanwhile, Under the Childcare Offer for Wales, eligible parents can claim up to 20 hours of childcare a week, for up to 48 hours of the year and 30 hours of childcare through the school holidays for eight weeks.

This government-funded childcare scheme aims to lessen the burden of childcare costs.
