Pembrokeshire waste and recycling dates over Christmas period

There are set to be some changes to rubbish and recycling collections in Pembrokeshire over the festive season.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year’s Day.

Collections originally scheduled for Monday, December 23, will now take place on Saturday, December 21.

Those due on Tuesday, December 24, will be moved to Sunday, December 22.

Collections set for Christmas Day will be rescheduled to Monday, December 23, and those due on Thursday, December 26, will now be collected on Tuesday, December 24.

For New Year’s, collections due on Wednesday, January 1, will take place on Thursday, January 2.

Those due on Thursday, January 2, will be moved to Friday, January 3, and those originally set for Friday, January 3, will now take place on Saturday, January 4.

Residents are reminded to ensure their containers are ready for collection by 6.30am.

To accommodate the extra waste generated during the festive season, properties will be allowed to leave one additional grey or black bag at the kerbside for their first collection of non-recyclable waste after Christmas.

However, residents are still urged to recycle as much as possible, including wrapping paper.

Wrapping paper can be recycled if it does not contain glitter or foil, and does not bounce back or unfold again after it is scrunched up into a ball.

Residents are also encouraged to recycle food waste, such as turkey bones and potato peelings.

Normal waste and recycling collections will resume on Monday, January 6.

For Pembrokeshire County Council trade waste customers, those on the small business or holiday let packages will follow the household collection dates.

Other trade waste customers will receive direct communication via email regarding their festive collection dates.

Waste and recycling centres in Pembrokeshire will require pre-booking over the festive period.

Booking can be done via the council’s website, where user guidelines and frequently asked questions are also available.

An out-of-hours telephone booking system for recycling centre slots is being trialled, operating Monday to Friday from 5pm to 7pm, and Saturday to Sunday from 8am to midday.

To book a slot people can phone 01437 764551 during these times.

Residents can also book a kerbside collection of their real Christmas tree for £5.30 per tree.

These will be collected on designated days and sent to a Pembrokeshire facility for shredding and composting.

The collection service will begin on Monday, January 6, and collections can be arranged online or by calling 01437 764551 from Monday, December 16.

Requests for collections will be available through the contact centre on 01437 764551 until Friday, January 3, and online until Sunday, January 5.
